True Scale 1

Today I’d like to share with you a project I’ve been working on for a while now and as the title suggests it’s all about true scale.

For ][nq28 fans the only Space Marine is a true scale one and so I thought I’d turn my hand to making my own and this led to the idea of making it kit like in nature and very poseable.

So as you can see from the image each part is ball jointed, which will allow it to be posed in a variety of ways and I should be able to achieve some pretty dynamic poses.

This is just a prototype at the moment and it will need a bit of adjusting but I’m pretty pleased with how it’s turned out so far.

Thoughts welcome as always 🙂

  1. Ooh, tell us you’re making it an available kit! You might want to beef out the legs and chest (a lot) more, but this dynamic posing is a brilliant idea!

    1. Thanks D power. At the moment he stands at 40mm without a head and the proportions are pretty accurate but I’ll have a go at making things beefier. Making it available is tricky as you can appreciate but I have an idea 💡 so watch this space.

  2. Very clever mate, looking forward to seeing this develop – good luck with the testing! Oh, and yeah – please make this available 🙂

    1. I agree, this is pretty clever. 🙂

      1. Thanks Ann! Glad you like it.

    2. Cheers Alex. I’m working on it! 😄

  3. I never gotten into the whole True Scale thing, too much hassle and too little reward. This could prove a very smart and easy way of doing it. Keep up the work!

    1. Thanks Thomas. I shall 😉

  4. Fantastic – and very much the sort of thing that is needed. I’ve often fancied making a few true scale space marines but I’ve always been put off by the amount of work involved. When you start making these available I’ll be at the head of the queue!

Of course, with clever use of bits one can make one’s own true scale marines but the backpacks remain a real issue as far as I can see. Using standard sized backpacks on true-scale marines just looks off to me, the models are just too iconic for those odd proportions. I know there’s always a danger of treading too close to GW’s IP but any thoughts on producing bigger backpacks in the future? They wouldn’t have to match the official ones that closely to make me happy.

The other thing I struggle with is terminators. They seem much harder to true-scale than tactical marines but if choosing to limit one’s self to only truescale models means no terminators – why that’s hardly a life at all! Of course I know that most people thinking at the Inq28 scale wouldn’t want terminators anyway (normal marines being tough enough) but think of the possibilities – powerful leaders/bosses for the finale, moving threats to avoid, true-scale space hulk… Depends how far you’d want to take this project really. All looking good so far anyway!

    1. Cheers mate. It all seems possible 😉 The IP is a problem and rightly so, I’ll have to look into that. I intend to make the armour really plain so people can model and kitbash them to make something really original or a squad of their favorite chapter.

  5. TAKE MY MONEY!!! I need this in my life! Such a brilliant idea!

    1. Glad you like it. You can email me. My address is in the home page.
