The Chapel is a small planet that rotates slowly around it’s blue tinged sun. In fact to call it a planet is not entirely correct as it’s no bigger than a small moon. It’s location is somewhere in the Segmentum Obscurus and it is a mysterious and haunted place, where many secrets lie and getting there by ship is not the only means a traveler can use to get there. Webway portals are known to exist but the location of these are a well guarded secret.
Many types of humanity populate its underground hive structure and it’s surface is only sparsely populated, usually around or in the albino like forests that cover areas situated around it’s equator. The rest of The Chapel is rocky mountains and plateaus.
Underground The Chapel is teaming with life and many factions of humanity have made it there home either willingly or otherwise as the mysteries and knowledge contained within The Chapel are endless and very desirable to many. Vast libraries, catacombs, factories and labs are to be found in it’s labyrinth like halls as well as all the dangers of gangs, heretics and worse.
The Chapel is many things but it’s most bizarre and somewhat unsettling characteristic is that it has the ability to play tricks on the mind and many a traveler has come to a sticky end due to it’s, lets say, dark sense of humor. Those who have inhabited it for a while become used to or even, in some cases, immune to it’s fickle ways but it is clear that the space between realities is thin on The Chapel
The ruler of this strange place is unclear and many rumours abound at who it is. Some say the inquisition rule it and this is the most popular view but others have claimed to have seen the true rulers and stories have been told of giant armoured men imposing their law on those who cross them. Who ever rules makes no difference to the general population and they go about there lives existing by trading or working in one of the many factories that maintain the hives power sure in the knowledge that whoever is in charge is surely watching and for those who have lived long enough know that The Chapel most definitely is.
So this is my idea of The Chapel. I’m not that good at creative writing as you can tell but I wanted to get a basic description of what the setting is for an inq28 campaign. This is a rather large project and I have much to do and I hope to get some of you involved in it if anyone is up for it. So if you fancy writing fluff, designing a warband you’d like to commit to the campaign or making a skirmish board to use all is welcome. I’d really love to make this a collaboration so message me if you’d like to take part in The Chapel.
On another note those of you who wanted the free skull stack will be happy to know that they will be sent out beginning of next week and if you get one of the black ones then expect another package soon after.
Happy New Year to you all.
So I reached 200 likes! I’m pretty proud of this milestone and would like to thank you all for viewing, liking and commenting on my blog posts. I’m glad you like what you see 🙂
To celebrate this momentous occasion ( that might sound a bit over the top actually ) I want to show you something that’s been growing on my workbench. I’ve got a few more things to add but it’s not far off being finished.
I wonder what they’re looking at?
The Chapel is a haunted place and so it’s unsurprising that there’s a few “disgruntled at being dead” ghosts floating around.
One such ghost is The Lady Marisa. This poor trapped soul spents her years floating around the many dark places of The Chapel looking mournful and preying on anyone who gets too close to one of her stacks of skulls she has littered around the place.
Like all the Ghosts her story is one of woe and betrayal and the eternal exsistance she is in has turned this once proud women into a monster of bitter anger streaked with intense jealousy of the living. This obviously has something to do with her possessive nature over her skull collections.
” Don’t get to close to the stacks of skulls you see laying around the place my boy. For your’s could join it “
This is the first of about 6 ghosts I shall be making for The Chapel. It was a great model to make and painting it allowed me to try a few colours out that I don’t usually use. I’m toying with the idea that each one should be a different colour.
Today I have a few images to share of what’s on the work bench and also the low down on one awesome material.
It’s called Magilight. I’ve been using this stuff for ages and I first got introduced to it in my years in Dentistry. Magilight is an acrylic but in putty form, so you can mold it into pretty much whatever shape you want and with the use of vasiline you can do a degree of modeling but nothing to detailed. The trick up it’s sleeve though is it’s setting properties and this magic stuff only needs 5 mins of UV light to set rock hard! It’s a good material for bases and most of my models you see in this blog have got it on somewhere. Below is a few picks of my progress with a Ghost character I am making for The Chapel and you can see how I’ve used it.
More work is needed and a few more bits to be added but soon she will be haunting the many halls of The Chapel.
These next few characters are ready for painting and then I’ll have to decide what to call them.
These three servitors can be found roaming around The Chapel, doing what they were made to do…………well mostly.
Moon is a messenger drone with a rather depressing outlook on things. It’s this attitude that makes him tell so many lies. You can never be sure if the message is a lie or not and so many a poor soul has found themselves in a sticky situation because of it.
Moon just dosen’t care.
Liber crawls around with a rather large tome on his back. This large book is mostly empty as it was meant to hold the great deeds of his master, who died centuries ago. Liber is unaware of this fact as he was sent off to look for a servo skull with a quill after the one accompanying them malfunctioned. He is yet to find one in the expanse of The Chapel so he can get what are his masters last words written.
Liber is lost.
Purge is the fastest flamer in The Chapel. He is most happy running around setting unwanted guests on fire and purging rooms that have become unsafe in one way or other. This enthusiasm for flame has it’s draw backs though as vital information and important people have been lost to his purging ways, much to the anger of many, but he’s never been caught because he’s just too damn fast.
Purge is a fire starter
I like the idea of the servitors we see around the 40k universe as sociopathic little buggers. Doing as they are told but going too far every now and then. The Chapel is full of these characters and I shall be creating more to fill its many halls.
So here are the two Black skull stacks. Two people will get these and then a suprise!
I still have skull stacks left so please if you havent bagged one yet you still can. Tell your friends even 🙂
I post overseas as well.
Just email me your address, blog, instagram and I’ll send one out.
Shunned by Slaanesh and left to wither, Megaera is but a bitter, evil shell of a Daemonette she once was. Mutated and twisted, Slaanesh loves to torment her and so she is always accompanied by a troup of daemonettes as a reminder to her of all she was and all she has lost.
Taunting her they tease and dance around her, enraging her until the exquisit torment becomes too much and she explodes into a blood thirsty frenzy. Laughing, her daemon tormenters are only to happy to join in with the blood shed.
So I’ve finished painting my Daemonettes with 3D printed bodies and I modeled and painted Megaera quickly today. The model you see below is just a concept and I shall be making another one of her soon.
I like the idea of a tormented daemon that is mocked and shunned. Forced to endure for the pleasure of Slaanesh, she can’t help but take pleasure in his desire to punish her and goad her into frenzied acts of violence.
So today I have a progress pic of The Chapel. It’s a massive undertaking and I have a hell of a long way to go, but I will triumph!
To see more pics head over to blackearthbitz on Instagram.
Hope you like it.
Today I took the plunge and joined The Ammo Bunker under the username of Ordo. It’s been something I’ve been meaning to do for ages and I’ve heard such good things about it and that the projects that go on are truely inspirational. I intend to post some of my projects but would like to have this blog as the main outlet as I think you can spread yourself too thin with social media so I’ll be sticking to my three of choice, WordPress, Instagram and Ammo Bunker.
Talking of social media, I’ve just started the Black Earth Instagram under blackearthbitz. I shall be posting more pics of whats on the horizon for that venture today, so head over and follow if you want to see.
So paint brushes! These beauties arrived this morning.
Heard they were good. Has anyone used them? I’m going to have to make a special character to christen them with I think 🙂
And it wouldn’t be a proper post without a pic of some models. So here’s todays work.
Yesterday I posted a pic of a model I’d created and then 3D printed. The idea was to create new bodies to be used as Daemonettes as the GW ones are a little static in my opinion with the claws and the heads being the really useful bits.
So below you will see the finished assembled model ready for primer and a group shot of her and her buddies
I hope you like them.
