Those who would brave The Chapel

The Chapel is calling and it’s secrets and riches are yours if you dare penetrate it’s hallowed halls, crumbling library’s, oil slicked and rust cracked factories and death lingering catacombs.

To take on the many locations of The Chapel you will need a Warband of daring and zeal, fire power and strength of mind but most importantly a desire for secrets and knowledge. So a typical group will consist of the following:

1. Lord ( Psyker or not )

2. Acolyte ( Psyker or not )

3. Psyker ( Astropath, Navigator, etc )

4. A walker of some description

5. Henchmen. These can include Imperial Guard, Space Marines, specialists, assassins, mutants, Mechanicus, servitors and even Xenos. The only restriction is you can only have up to 6.

6. Servo Skulls and other little pests. No limit on these.

The idea is that the group can be split either by the player or because The Chapel feels like it, so you could find elements of your group separated and fighting to stay alive in some dark place of The Chapel or even on the harsh surface of the planet.

The Chapel has a role to play in each battle and this will work by having two decks of cards which one will be drawn by each player at the start of the turn. The cards taken will have an effect on the groups or individuals so keep in mind the potential randomness of the games as the terrain boards you fight on will have effects on the characters under your control. Sometimes being a Psyker isn’t a good thing ๐Ÿ˜‰

Who are you fighting?

The inhabitants of The Chapel of course! They are varied and you should let your imagination go mental. Groups and gangs can be created to populate The Chapel and they must have descriptions and back ground so take your time. The aim for this project is to have it documented into a book and those who have taken part will get one. That brings me up to the next part. I will need stories, art work, maps, etc and I’ll be taking photo’s of all the models involved.

So get writing, get scribbling and get kitbashing! This can be a wonderful colaboration project and I hope to get a few more people involved but for now the people who are

Casper

No one is quite sure what Casper is but one thing is for sure, that everyone in The Chapel worker gangs, who maintain the power and produce energy based items, think he’s a complete arsehole. This view is also shared with all who meet him for Casper has a job to do and that job is to keep people in line and motivated. It is unclear whether Casper was given this task or if he just made it up but one thing is clear, Casper loves it.

Whizzing around in Scrutiny, his well armoured and fast chair of office, he can been seen dishing out judgments and setting penance, giving praise and then taking it back, usually with a whack from is scepter and if you’re really unlucky, or deserving, writing your name in his book.

The book is Caspers favorite thing and if your name is entered into it your life will be changed forever as Casper will harass you for as long as you live. This is of course all for your own good and those with their names written seldom step out of line again for if they do Casper will zap you with Scrutiny’s rather large and powerful gun, reducing you to ash.

casper

Although he’s a menace Casper loves his home in The Chapel and will defend it with his life, protecting those he keeps an eye on in the factories and standing with worker gangs that have a problem with outsiders. It has been known for Casper to come flying into a gang dispute and laying waste to the offending party for he will not tolerate any disrespect to his turf and those who toil under him. The joy of the worker gangs triumph is short lived though as Casper writes all the survivors names in his book blaming them for inviting the conflict into his domain.

The servitor Moon has had many a joyful time giving Casper the wrong info and this has always led to summery judgement on those who don’t deserve it, luckily no one has been zapped yet due to Moon’s lack of caring but like everything in The Chapel, it’s only a matter of time.

The Revenant Boy

The Chapel has many ghosts but none are as horrific as the Revenant Boy.

The suffering of this poor child was so great that the horror and pain of it became something all together evil and vengeful. His death was meant to be a sacrifice to malignant forces but as the last strike was cast he made them his own and vowed to get revenge on the living.

Blood soaked and screaming he appears and as the screams get louder the evil wrath that’s within him sucks the dripping blood out of his ethereal body, bursting into pained existence from his mutilated form and wrecking savage murder on all that’s in his path.

I’ve always wanted to paint a model in blood for the blood god, it’s such a wonderfully gruesome paint and it’s the main reason for this idea. The blood being sucked out of him was done by modeling the boy and then printing him using clear resin. I then just primed the parts I wanted to paint. Once the model work was done it was a pretty quick job to finish and it was highly enjoyable slapping gore all over him.

][ The Chapel ][

planet

The Chapel is a small planet that rotates slowly around it’s blue tinged sun. In fact to call it a planet is not entirely correct as it’s no bigger than a small moon. It’s location is somewhere in the Segmentum Obscurus and it is a mysterious and haunted place, where many secrets lie and getting there by ship is not the only means a traveler can use to get there. Webway portals are known to exist but the location of these are a well guarded secret.

Many types of humanity populate its underground hive structure and it’s surface is only sparsely populated, usually around or in the albino like forests that cover areas situated around it’s equator. The rest of The Chapel is rocky mountains and plateaus.

surface-of-planet

Underground The Chapel is teaming with life and many factions of humanity have made it there home either willingly or otherwise as the mysteries and knowledge contained within The Chapel are endless and very desirable to many. Vast libraries, catacombs, factories and labs are to be found in it’s labyrinth like halls as well as all the dangers of gangs, heretics and worse.

The Chapel is many things but it’s most bizarre and somewhat unsettling characteristic is that it has the ability to play tricks on the mind and many a traveler has come to a sticky end due to it’s, lets say, dark sense of humor. Those who have inhabited it for a while become used to or even, in some cases, immune to it’s fickle ways but it is clear that the space between realities is thin on The Chapel

The ruler of this strange place is unclear and many rumours abound at who it is. Some say the inquisition rule it and this is the most popular view but others have claimed to have seen the true rulers and stories have been told of giant armoured men imposing their law on those who cross them. Who ever rules makes no difference to the general population and they go about there lives existing by trading or working in one of the many factories that maintain the hives power sure in the knowledge that whoever is in charge is surely watching and for those who have lived long enough know that The Chapel most definitely is.

So this is my idea of The Chapel. I’m not that good at creative writing as you can tell but I wanted to get a basic description of what the setting is for an inq28 campaign. This is a rather large project and I have much to do and I hope to get some of you involved in it if anyone is up for it. So if ย you fancy writing fluff, designing a warband you’d like to commit to the campaign or making a skirmish board to use all is welcome. I’d really love to make this a collaboration so message me if you’d like to take part in The Chapel.

On another note those of you who wanted the free skull stack will be happy to know that they will be sent out beginning of next week and if you get one of the black ones then expect another package soon after.

Happy New Year to you all.

To celebrate this momentous occasion ( that might sound a bit over the top actually ) I want to show you something that’s been growing on my workbench. I’ve got a few more things to add but it’s not far off being finished.

The Lady Marisa

The Chapel is a haunted place and so it’s unsurprising that there’s a few “disgruntled at being dead” ghosts floating around.

One such ghost is The Lady Marisa. This poor trapped soul spents her years floating around the many dark places of The Chapel looking mournful and preying on anyone who gets too close to one of her stacks of skulls she has littered around the place.

Like all the Ghosts her story is one of woe and betrayal and the eternal exsistance she is in has turned this once proud women into a monster of bitter anger streaked with intense jealousy of the living. This obviously has something to do with her possessive nature over her skull collections.

” Don’t get to close to the stacks of skulls you see laying around the place my boy. For your’s could join it “

This is the first of about 6 ghosts I shall be making for The Chapel. It was a great model to make and painting it allowed me to try a few colours out that I don’t usually use. I’m toying with the idea that each one should be a different colour.

The Chapel w.i.p 1

Today I have a few images to share of what’s on the work bench and also the low down on one awesome material.

It’s called Magilight. I’ve been using this stuff for ages and I first got introduced to it in my years in Dentistry. Magilight is an acrylic but in putty form, so you can mold it into pretty much whatever shape you want and with the use of vasiline you can do a degree of modeling but nothing to detailed. The trick up it’s sleeve though is it’s setting properties and this magic stuff only needs 5 mins of UV light to set rock hard! It’s a good material for bases and most of my models you see in this blog have got it on somewhere. Below is a few picks of my progress with a Ghost character I am making for ย The Chapel and you can see how I’ve used it.

More work is needed and a few more bits to be added but soon she will be haunting the many halls of The Chapel.

These next few characters are ready for painting and then I’ll have to decide what to call them.

Moon, Liber and Purge

These three servitors can be found roaming around The Chapel, doing what they were made to do…………well mostly.

Moon

Moon is a messenger drone with a rather depressing outlook on things. It’s this attitude that makes him tell so many lies. You can never be sure if the message is a lie or not and so many a poor soul has found themselves in a sticky situation because of it.

Moon just dosen’t care.

moon

Liber

Liber crawls around with a rather large tome on his back. This large book is mostly empty as it was meant to hold the great deeds of his master, who died centuries ago. Liber is unaware of this fact as he was sent off to look for a servo skull with a quill after the one accompanying them malfunctioned. He is yet to find one in the expanse of The Chapel so he can get what are his masters last words written.

Liber is lost.

liber

Purge

Purge is the fastest flamer in The Chapel. He is most happy running around setting unwanted guests on fire and purging rooms that have become unsafe in one way or other. This enthusiasm for flame has it’s draw backs though as vital information and important people have been lost to his purging ways, much to the anger of many, but he’s never been caught because he’s just too damn fast.

Purge is a fire starter

purge

I like the idea of the servitors we see around the 40k universe as sociopathic little buggers. Doing as they are told but going too far every now and then. The Chapel is full of these characters and I shall be creating more to fill its many halls.

Daemonettes

Yesterday I posted a pic of a model I’d created and then 3D printed. The idea was to create new bodies to be used as Daemonettes as the GW ones are a little static in my opinion with the claws and the heads being the really useful bits.

So below you will see the finished assembled model ready for primer and a group shot of her and her buddies

I hope you like them.
