Just a little post about some little characters.
Gryph is a Brazier Drone but he’s also a messenger. He can be seen lighting the way through the trees or the streets for those who need it and sometimes he has a message to carry too. I say sometimes because on some occasions he feels the need to burn the message in the flame that constantly burns from his back. Maybe burning messages breaks up his otherwise tedious existence, maybe it makes him feel all warm and fuzzy inside, whatever the reason through spite or just bad programing no one really knows why this happens and some people have taken to following him to make sure the message is received. Why they can’t just tell them themselves is beyond Gryph. It all seems rather insane.
Coil is a guard and so takes himself, and his job very seriously. He constantly tells everyone who needs his services that he’s been a guard in all his past lives and that he’s the best at it. This has been proven time and time again though and his trick is be unseen until the last-minute when he’ll usually uncoil himself from hiding and either lash out with his sharp whip like tail or, if the threat is deemed too high, douse the intruder with flame. In this way coil has prevented many intruders from access to his masters houses or work places, and he’s also dealt with a few annoying and unwelcome in-laws as well. After all Coil is loyal only to his current master but it’s usually when a family member dies he is forced to move on.
Prowl is a cat-like, stimm charged rodent catcher. He can be found prowling around or stalking his prey in amongst the trees or in the streets and buildings where an infestation has been found. Some of his prey is larger than he but Prowl takes this as a challenge and he’s not yet been defeated by any mutated, two-headed, spine tailed rat. He has a secret weapon you see, a highly powerful laser for his right eye. BBQ rats can be found littering the streets at times and the homeless have been reliant on him as a source of food for some time. Some even venerate him as a saviour, but Prowl doesn’t care he’s just here to do a job and the next plagued monstrosity is only around the corner. It is however a good thing to have a population watching your back and Prowl is never lost for friends or care
Mort is a Brazier Drone and that’s it. He spends most of his time chasing his shadow and so has a very erratic way of floating. This has of course caused him to bump into people and sometimes cause third degree burns. It’s also been known for him to set fire to the surrounding woods if he’s allowed to venture into it. This is all very annoying but no one seems to get his parameters set right and so it’s only very drunk people who follow him.
The Lady Elect and her Sentinels are the wardens of the entrance ways to The Chapel. The Sentinels themselves occupy many of the main and well used entrances and are large imposing machines worthy of the Machine God. Each has it’s own character with some being taciturn while others are brash and some are even morbid. These traits are caused by the long exposure to the entrances for The Chapels fickle ways are at their strongest in these places.
The Lady Elect, Mistress of the Sentinels, High Warden of The Chapel, is a giant of a woman. Augmented to intimidate she stands taller, it is said, than a Space marine reaching half the height of the Sentinels that serve her.
It has been a while since I delved into The Chapel and I’ve really missed it, but, as you are all too aware, life gets a hold of you and drags you kicking and screaming back to reality.
So as you’ve just read, this is the start of The Chapels entrance ways and the groups of augmented guards and quirky monster machines you can find in them. This is a good chance to get all Mechanicum so lets see what robotic horrors you can come up with as Sentinels vary in not only character but looks to. Mine are two brothers, and I’ll be posting the fluff on them in good time, they where inspired by Neil of Opus Maius, who has stopped his blog ( sad day when he did that ) but who you can find on Instagram now under the same name ( a happy day when he did that ) If you read this Neil keep the inspiration coming!
As always the work for this project has been outstanding and the support you guys have shown makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Keep up the good work.
Today I have a few images to share of what’s on the work bench and also the low down on one awesome material.
It’s called Magilight. I’ve been using this stuff for ages and I first got introduced to it in my years in Dentistry. Magilight is an acrylic but in putty form, so you can mold it into pretty much whatever shape you want and with the use of vasiline you can do a degree of modeling but nothing to detailed. The trick up it’s sleeve though is it’s setting properties and this magic stuff only needs 5 mins of UV light to set rock hard! It’s a good material for bases and most of my models you see in this blog have got it on somewhere. Below is a few picks of my progress with a Ghost character I am making for The Chapel and you can see how I’ve used it.
More work is needed and a few more bits to be added but soon she will be haunting the many halls of The Chapel.
These next few characters are ready for painting and then I’ll have to decide what to call them.
These three servitors can be found roaming around The Chapel, doing what they were made to do…………well mostly.
Moon is a messenger drone with a rather depressing outlook on things. It’s this attitude that makes him tell so many lies. You can never be sure if the message is a lie or not and so many a poor soul has found themselves in a sticky situation because of it.
Moon just dosen’t care.
Liber crawls around with a rather large tome on his back. This large book is mostly empty as it was meant to hold the great deeds of his master, who died centuries ago. Liber is unaware of this fact as he was sent off to look for a servo skull with a quill after the one accompanying them malfunctioned. He is yet to find one in the expanse of The Chapel so he can get what are his masters last words written.
Liber is lost.
Purge is the fastest flamer in The Chapel. He is most happy running around setting unwanted guests on fire and purging rooms that have become unsafe in one way or other. This enthusiasm for flame has it’s draw backs though as vital information and important people have been lost to his purging ways, much to the anger of many, but he’s never been caught because he’s just too damn fast.
Purge is a fire starter
I like the idea of the servitors we see around the 40k universe as sociopathic little buggers. Doing as they are told but going too far every now and then. The Chapel is full of these characters and I shall be creating more to fill its many halls.
