Hello all! So as you’ve probably read the awesome dude behind Leadballoony Alex came over last weekend to delve into the realms of the Albino Woods and begin the creation of the ground where many shall meet there doom. Head over to his blog to see the pics of the great “we’re allowed to do our hobby all day” day. Thanks girls! It’s not often I get the chance to indulge in a hobby day like that and to put a face to the blog and meet Alex was a pure pleasure. You’re a top bloke mate!
As Alex mentioned I showed him the progress I’m making on the Entrance board and as he posted pics of the Albino Woods I’d thought I’d share a few snaps of The Entrance.
Today I’d like to present to you a fellow contributer to The Chapel project. Ahmad Alibrahing or as some of you may know him as Stygian Thorne. If you have an Instagram account then get following him as his art is wonderful and very Blanchian.
He has been so kind as to do a few pieces for The Chapel and he says there is more to come so watch this space and get inspired. Here’s what he’s done so far.
Pretty cool huh?
With his contributions The Chapel comes full circle. Idea, stories, miniatures, scenery and art.
I’ve been busy! Not that that will change anytime soon but I feel the need for some much-needed blog catching up.
So The Chapel project is still simmering nicely and I’ve been working hard on the Entrance board with all the parts printed and cast and now being assembled. I’ve made it as a kit you see, a task that’s been a test of my skills and I have to say as the prototype goes it’s all coming together rather nicely. Work is also going to commence on the Albino Woods board. This piece is going to be big! Most of the scenery is made thanks to the talented IRO ( Imperial Rebel Ork ) and Alex of Leadballoony with a few bits made by yours truly, all that needs to happen now is to plan the layout and get it made…….Excited!
The Chapel project has been all-consuming for me and it’s been a joy to have such talented people along for the ride, your input has been amazing. On the subject of amazing, I will have an announcement to make to soon, one that will add a whole new dimension to The Chapel project. So get ready to be inspired 🙂
Next we have models. Lovely chunks of grey we all go made for and can’t get enough of. As some of you know I’ve been working on a selection of bits and models to sell and I have come up with an idea, an idea that was sparked by a conversation with Alex ( Leadballoony) and it is this. I would like you to think of an original bit you would like and submit it me here. I will then do my best to make that bit to sell in my shop and if yours gets made you will get it for free as a thank you. So think of an item you’ve always wanted to add to a model but couldn’t find the right part and I’ll make it for you. Sound good?
This is the part that I’m making for Alex. Can you tell what the inspiration for it was? Think old skool.
To round things off here’s a few images of the Sentinel model ( See here for more info ) that’ll be available as soon as the shop goes live.
Just a few bits today. A couple of pieces of scenery for the Albino Woods board and an extra addition to the Wytch Cult.
First up a Mile Maiden. These can be found in parts of the Albino Woods and are meant to present a mile has been traveled since the last one. Only thing is many have been smashed or weathered away over the centuries so they are not a really reliable measure of distance anymore.
Next is a big pile of rust. Rust is cool! I think this will look great next to IRO’s scenery.
Here is the latest addition to the Wytch Cult. The Flesh Cart. I fancied doing some gore and showing a helpless poor soul pleading for his life before getting stabbed again by the cart Imp.
To call the Black Tide a ghost is true but it behaves more like an elemental force. It has been around since humans have inhabited The Chapel and so no one could tell you who it used to be, the only thing those who have survived it can agree on is that it isn’t just one soul but many.
It gets it’s name from the fact that it not only has a taste for souls but it also has a voracious appetite for pollution and other filth. Polluted areas are many within The Chapel as vast districts are given over to industrial use, where the fumes and sludge are at it’s highest levels and prone to outbreaks and spills. Many such incidents have happened over time and it is then that the Black Tide is at it’s most dangerous. It appears, like all ghosts, as if from now where and proceeds to suck up the filth, oil, fumes and waste at an alarming rate growing in size as it surges forward in a tide of unstoppable sludge and damned souls. Laughter, shouting, weeping and rage comes flowing out of it as the souls bound to it writhe within it’s mass and it soon floods the area consuming all you can’t escape and swatting aside those who attempt to shoot it with their puny weapons. One such incident will go down as the worst as the monster tide of death it became grew to such a size that it threatened to flood three whole districts in the southern area of the Hive. Many lives had been lost and in desperation some fool decided to use a flamer (see if you can guess who that was) Cackling with unsurpressed joy the Black Tide caught fire and with it so did three districts. The death toll and damage was huge and when the fires finally went out no sign of the Black Tide could be found. Those who survived thought it had been destroyed but in truth it takes more than just flame to destroy a ghost.
Other encounters with this hazard to your health have been small compared to that day and when it has disappeared it has been a mystery as to how. Much speculation and questions as to those responsible with some rare sightings of beings not seen before have been made but never answered. So the Black Tide remains lurking in the depths with it’s collection of souls feeding on the pollution that follows humanity where ever it goes.
On the plus side though, even after all the life loss and disaster, the places it passes through are left cleaner than they were……. Just don’t set it on fire.
The 5th Ghost has been the hardest to make and paint and for this reason has also been the most fun. Getting the movement right and the colours was a challenge as portraying surging pollution was difficult but the idea was in my head and I had to see it through. The result is pleasing and I’m glad I did, I hope you agree 🙂
Oh yes one more thing. To Mr Wudugast and The Ordo Mors I hope you’re ready for this particular pain bringer and I dare you to bring a flamer 😉
Reanna Fleetfoot handed the old pict to the Master Guides sitting before her in a semicircle. They each in turn looked at it and then looked at each other.
” We are aware of this image. It was also documented that the monster was killed around the same time. Why do you bring this to us?”
” A survivor my Lords.”
” A survivor from where? Please Reanna get to the point! ”
” The man was found about fifty miles west from here and when I passed through the town of Acre Hill recently the folk pleaded to me to hear him out. They were extremely fearful and some of the older folk were talking of daemons and wytch cults.”
At the mention of those words the Masters began whispering to each other. Reanna waited to speak again. After a moment the whispering stopped.
” Tell us what this man said”
” He claimed his village was attacked and destroyed by monsters from the deep woods and that many village folk were taken and many more were flayed. He told me the village was called Greybush and which direction it lay. I left the town at that point to find this village. What I found was destruction and murder of the most cruel nature. I then returned and asked to see the man again. I asked how he survived such horror and he said he was returning from hunting when the attack happened. He watched the whole thing knowing he couldn’t do a thing about it. He then fled to Acre Hill. My lords the man described a monster that is a likeness for the one in the image”
” Impossible! The beast was slain, the reports tell us it was cleansed by fire!”
The whispering started again and lasted many minutes. Reanna stood still head bowed waiting for it to stop. When it did.
” Reanna you are a very inquisitive, clever and honest guide and over the years you have brought many incidents to our attention. On this instance though we will need more proof. If you can bring it to us we will act with all our influence. Bring us the survivor first, with force if need be. You may go.”
As Reanna Fleetfoot left the hall the whispering started again.
” What if she is right?”
” Then the histories got something wrong”
” We didn’t tell her about the two missing guides, last seen around that area.”
” We will if her findings are true.”
” If the Wytch cults are active again and that monster is leading them with such brazen displays of carnage then we have a real problem on our hands.”
” Then we will deal with it as we always have, getting the guides to lead a traveller group of significant force and ability right to them and force confrontation. Even if they get killed they would have dealt a severe blow to those monsters and we can always guide more to finish the job.”
” That’s right we know there is a considerable rise in travellers seeking entrance to The Chapel.”
” That is worrying in itself! So much activity can only mean things beneath our feet are going to get worse.”
” The Call has been sent then?”
” I believe it must have, it’s the only explanation.”
” Then we must be ready. Things will escalate quickly and we have our role to play.”
Here are the beginnings of the Wytch Cult you unsuspecting travellers will be confronting in the depths of the Albino Woods.
Tears mix with blood and it runs down his face. The shock and sting of loss so great it threatens to overcome him as his hand trembles over her masked face. He can’t bring himself to remove it for fear of seeing her lifeless eyes that had been so full of life stare blankly and without love at him.
Blood mixed with earth, he slams his fist into it! The loss has turned to rage as he casts his head up to find the back stabbing bastard looking at him from the entrance. He has a grin on his face and a heart in his hand. Drip, drip, drip, her blood hits the ground as he raises it and shouts
“The harvest has begun! May the Heptameron rise again and bring paradise to this world!”
Still grinning he turns around and disappears with what’s left of his group into the depths of The Chapel the only thing that can follow is a scream of loss and rage.
Thus it is that Æolus started on his Scarlet path and in time he will get his revenge as all he needs to do is find the right one, the traveler who will be the one to bring the Heptameron to it’s knees.
My Ostium Guide Æolus the Scarlet all painted and ready. As colour choices go I’m pretty pleased with him as I’ve based it on the colours I see the Albino Woods being so he would blend into his surroundings.
The Albino Woods to be precise. Yes it’s time to delve into that mysterious region of The Chapel, from its flora and fauna to the folk who inhabit the many towns that surround it and of course the many dangers that dwell within it. I’d also like to expand on the Guild of the Ostium Guides and the role it plays with the populations of the surface.
All ideas are welcome and let the inspiration flow! Lets all get lost in the Albino Woods 🙂
